The Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA), producer of the Chicago Auto Show, announces the promotion of Jim OBrill to vice president of marketing & operations, effective Nov. 1, 2026.

Approaching a decade with the CATA, OBrill has played an integral role in advancing the association and the Chicago Auto Show through strategic marketing, sponsorship development, event planning and industry partnerships. In his expanded role, he will continue to oversee marketing and sponsorships while taking on broader operational responsibilities, including working directly with manufacturers and exhibitors on Chicago Auto Show initiatives and floor planning, overseeing the CATA Member Benefits Program, and taking on a larger role in organizational budgeting and forecasting.

“Jim has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment, leadership and innovation throughout his time with the CATA,” said CATA President and Chicago Auto Show General Manager Jennifer Morand. “He brings a strategic mindset, a collaborative approach and a passion for the automotive industry to everything he does. This promotion recognizes the significant contributions he has made to our organization and the leadership he will continue to provide as we look toward the future.”

OBrill joined the CATA in 2017, bringing extensive experience in event marketing, sponsorship management and promotional strategy. Before joining the association, he served as a senior account manager at Mosaic, an experiential agency, developing and executing national marketing programs for a variety of leading consumer brands. Prior to that, he worked as sales promotion manager at 97.1 FM The Drive, overseeing promotions, sponsorship opportunities and client campaigns.

In addition to his CATA responsibilities, OBrill serves as president of the Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA), leading the organization that connects automotive journalists and industry professionals. He is also a co-host of DriveChicago Radio on WLS-AM 890 and contributes automotive content and vehicle reviews to DriveChicago.com.

A lifelong automotive enthusiast, OBrill began working at local dealerships throughout high school and college and has remained closely connected to the industry throughout his career. His experience spans automotive marketing, media, content creation and event execution, bringing a broad perspective to his work with the CATA and the Chicago Auto Show.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue growing with the CATA and the Chicago Auto Show,” said OBrill. “I’m excited to build on the work we’ve done, strengthen our relationships with members and industry partners, and help advance new opportunities that support the association and the future of the Chicago Auto Show.”
